Programs

Sunday School

Sunday School for children preschool through grade two  is offered during Sunday worship services, except for the first Sunday of the month when the entire community gathers for the sacrament of communion.  Children begin most Sundays in the sanctuary with their families and then depart after the Faith Story/Traveling Music, gathering in their classrooms in the Parish House.

Sunday School is in session from mid-September until late May or early June.

An older class, for older children and for youth, meets on an occasional basis, for special projects.  Dates will be announced soon.

Bible Study

Old South offers regular opportunities for Bible Study.  These studies are led by the Pastor or lay leaders.

The Bible Bunch is an area study which meets on Wednesdays from Noon until 1:00 from mid-September until mid-June.  The group usually meets at South Parish Congregational Church, UCC, in Augusta, and involves individuals from several area churches.

For more information about current offerings, check the News&Notes.

The Occasional Film Group

The OFG meets every 4-6 weeks.  Our next film is Pride, based on a true story of the unlikely alliance between a group of gay and lesbian activists and families affected by the UK miners’ strike in 1984.  The film will be shown at Railroad Square Cinema in Waterville.  It is scheduled to begin at the end of October.  More details to come.

Mission and Outreach

We offer mission and outreach in a  variety of ways:

1.  Bread of Life Dinner Delivery.  From September through June, we deliver the evening meal to the Bread of Life Shelter on the first Wednesday of the month.

2.  Monthly Hallowell Food Bank offering.  We collect food for the Hallowell Food Bank on the first Sunday of the month.

3.  Outreach Fund.  Through our Outreach Fund, we offer donations to a variety of projects, from Pilgrim Lodge to the Food Bank to Bread of Life and Family Violence Project.

4.  Regular offerings.  We participate in United Church of Christ offerings, as well as ecumenical offerings– Neighbors in Need; Christmas Fund; One Great Hour of Sharing; etc.
